Code in the broadest sense is a procedural element in learning, an extremely important one. How does coding relate to AI?

Other than the obvious - where without code to instruct machines, AI wouldn't reach further than what we could manage with gears, levers, springs, and engines - I'd say that the mental models we've constructed through the act of coding have lit the way for how we might construct digital NAI machines. GAI is probably another hurdle altogether. But even there, expanding the notion of "code" to include words and the rules of language seems like it might bridge the gap between LLMs and original ideas. If "code" were to include genes and gene expression...well, things could get really interesting. AI's evolution is on an exponential growth curve at the moment, so the near-future will certainly be full of surprises.
