The Remnant's Way

The Remnant's Way has been an ongoing experiment for the past six or so months. It's where I'll be posting articles that tend to stray outside the bounds I've placed around The Stoic Agilist. While I've tried to refrained from making updates to articles on the Stoic Agilist beyond typos and grammar fixes, this hasn't been easy. Many articles don't find their way from the drafts folder to the front page for the simple reason they don't belong here.
I am not at all up to the task of commenting on current events. (If you're new to the Stoic Agilist, my thoughts on politics can be found here and here.) Even so, there are times when I have wanted to reflect on current events insofar as they have had an impact on my beliefs, values, mental models, and strategies - to one degree or another either reinforcing or transforming them. I felt I owe it to my subscribers not to stray too far from the Stoic Agilist's compass. If you are interested in how I use science, technology, philosophy and history to deconstruct and evaluate the raggedy edge of contemporary culture and use what I learn to thrive within it - and by extension how you might do the same - the The Remnant's Way may appeal to you.
Posts on The Remnant's Way are subject to updates as I see fit based on new information or experiences that change my point of view. It's the site on which I intend to express more of what makes me tick and a little bit of what ticks me off. The emailed posts feature is just a way to keep subscribers informed of updates and additions.

"We come into this world with sealed orders," a quote attributed to Søren Kierkegaard, and learning what those "orders" are is an unending learning process. As such, all of learning, indeed all of life is an unending iterative process of error correction. We make guesses, some informed and most not-so-informed, learn when we are wrong, and make adjustments. By definition this means we're going to be wrong most of the time and, if we're to grow and mature, update our priors based on the lessons learned. The harder we press on learning the more mistakes we're going to make. When we integrate the lesson we furthering our maturation and deepen our wisdom.
I'm not free of this iterative wheel of life and the only exceptional thing I can claim is how hard I work to turn the wheel. If you've found something I've said or written in the past that appears to contradict what's written here or elsewhere then you've captured a glimpse into this process.
The Remnants Way is also my attempt to bend Substack into something more akin to the original promise of hypertext, that is, to make the whole site and interconnected compilation of my view of and relationship to the world.
I will fail at this.
Firstly because it's doomed to end as incomplete. Secondly, because the map is not the territory. The hope is I'll learn enough about the organization of my ideas to eventually port everything to a site that actually does deliver on the promise of hypertext and leave a map for anyone else who may find use for it. So far Obsidian is the closest match to my way of organizing thoughts and while it does have a publish feature, the security model isn't to my liking. But I am actively exploring and experimenting with various potential solutions.

You have to try, right? I do love that Kierkegaard quote. Currently, I am sorting through some feelings about those that chose to NOT open the orders and try to figure it out. I am finding it tragic.
I do also appreciate the ebb and flow of life. Sometimes you have to be active searching. Sometimes you just need to stop and shut up. :)
