Coffee Shop Moment
[Something a little fun, I hope. Or at least different for this blog. I'm enrolled in a story telling workshop. It's a long...well, story on how I got here. Suffice it to say I've had the past year to get serious about my writing and this is a way to help me get un-serious while getting better at writing. I'll drop these in the queue if I think they're interesting enough. This one was the result of an exercise on observation. - GPE]
Just back from one of my favorite coffee shops...
The early morning crowd of engineering students and hyper-athletic types has given way to the late rising hotelers. The transition happens almost as fast as a staged scene change. Gone are the bike helmets, backpacks, yoga pants, and wide-eyed energy that springs from a youthful metabolism soaked in caffeine and carbohydrates. The changing of the guard has brought forward bulky winter coats draped over bulky bodies, sensible baggage, and sleepy glazed eyes squinting to read the menu board. Soon enough the New Guard surrenders to the demands of age, rummages through their bulk, and brings forth the needed pair of glasses.
